My 29 years old birthday

29 years old now. There's so many wonderful and beautiful events happen for the past 1 year. I thank God for all the great blessings and favors He gave to me and I know that I am deeply loved by Him.

Here's some of the highlights I experienced:

Went to Beijing on business trip and visited Richard and his family. Also had the opportunity to see the Great Wall of China.
Family gathering during Chinese New Year. It was wonderful as all of us are back home for family reunion and I am looking forward for more reunion.
Commited in serving God through web ministry. http://www.excelpoint.org/. Also be active in cell group activities in Jireh Unlimited, http://jirehultd.blogspot.com/. This is an awesome CG to be with. I grow so much spiritually and having beautiful friends (bro and sis) encourage and helping each other in any area.
Took another serious step in my relationship with Melissa and we plan to settle down next year. Yes, looking forward for my big day.
Lastly, my passion for photography start to receive acceptance among friends. Pushing myself to another level in this hobby; with that I began my freelance services together with Melissa. Here's our photo blog, http://dmphotoarts.wordpress.com/.

Searching for a treasure

It's been a while now since I last blog. Suddenly there's a thought to blog some recent activities I had. A quick summary for last month is, I went to North Vietnam together with Melissa and a group of good friends. We visited Hanoi, Sapa and Ha Long Bay. Honestly, there are too many unexpected incidents and Kelly managed to narrate it out very well.

Another most recent event was the treasure hunt to Genting Highland, organized by PMG, for all Penang manufacturing company. We were one of the earliest to complete and we win nothing. When the organizer announces the result, the whole team was shocked to know we barely had 50% correct answers. What a shame. It's alright, the next one will be in Langkawi and we will do better.

I would not say that I came back empty handed from this treasure hunt trip; in return I have a wonderful opportunity to capture 2 beautiful ladies - they are also my team member for the treasure hunt. Happy New Year - 2008

A lot of my friends asked me how am I going to celebrate the New Year, and my answer to them is, "I am going to church for the Watch Night service". There are so many other things to do than celebrating in the church. Well, I have my own reason why I choose so.

1st: Celebrating in town and watching fireworks is fun, however when I think about the traffic jams I am going to endure, I just could not convince myself hard to do that.

2nd: I choose the Watch Night as I would like to have a more meaningful way to reflect what I have gone thru for the year 2007; seeking God's forgiveness for my shortcomings, so that I may move on to year 2008 cheerfully.

And 3rd, the best part is by attending the Watch Night service; I got to listen to a lot of inspiring testimonies from my church friends. It is wonderful to see and know that God has been a great blessing in their lives.

Looking back, God has blessed me greatly too. There are 3 wonderful things happen to me in year 2007. First, I have completed my MBA in January and truly it is because of God's great timing I managed to go through it successfully. Secondly, just after completing my MBA, I managed to move my career to the next level; moreover it is my dream job since 4 years ago. This job gives me opportunities to explore and expand my knowledge and enable me to travel world wide. God is really indeed a Living God; everything I asked in prayer has been fulfilled by Him. And finally, thanks to my Father in Heaven (God) for blessing me a wonderful and loving earthly father. My dad blesses me a new house and he is sharing the cost with me. And I am looking forward to see the house, where all my family members can stay together with me whenever they want. God is really a Great God and He is indeed a super good God. Amen!

I was in Beijing 2 weeks ago and Beijing is a wonderful place. The best thing is Richard - my best friend is working in Beijing. Here is the adventure being arrange chronologically.

24 Nov (Sat)
1. Arrived BJ @ 7.20am
2. Richard picking up though he is not feeling well
3. Check-in to Richard’s mansion
4. Richard went to hospital again for further check-up
5. Daniel hungry till almost fainted (11am++)
6. 12pm, meeting up with Grace. Then went for lunch @ SOHO, 建外.
7. After lunch, went to 西单(XiDan) famous for shopping among young & trendy locals
8. Took subway to 天安门 (TianAnMen). Mario was captured (photo attached) in there
9. Walked to Wong Fook Jin, 王府井 (WangFuJing, famous tourist spot)
10. Had 小龙包 (Mini Bun), then to 百货大楼 (Beijing 1st Emporium) for window shopping
11. Walked to 东华门夜市 (DongHuaMen Night Market) for dinner. Ate 爆肚儿(fresh ox stomach soup) – the 老北京(Old Beijing snack)
12. Took a cab and went to 后海 (HouHai), this place is famous for pub and bar. There is an ancient bridge, 银镞桥
13. Lastly, sent Grace home & met Tiger, Grace’s puppy

25 Nov (Sun)
1. Woke up late, Richard went to hospital again to stay alive
2. 1pm, finally R is back. Set for lunch
3. R shivering again, went to toilet for a long time – tummy problem
4. Went to Temple of Heaven, 天坛. Walk around the garden in darkness & feeling the Siberian + Mongolian wind
5. Went to 红桥 (HongQiao market) to buy some souvenir
6. Grace’s bargaining skills truly amazing; from RMB 180/shirt to RMB 50 for 2. Super Bargain Queen
7. Went to 东直门(DongZhiMen) for Sichuan cuisine; specialty is super spicy steam boat
8. Walked around Ginza Mall; bought myself a snow cap for protection against the Siberian / Mongolian cold winter wind
9. Went back to Richard’s place and ate more food
10. And finally, sent Grace back home

26 Nov (Mon)
1. Woke up @ 6.30am, hired a driver and leave for MuTianYu Great Wall
2. Slept in the car
3. Arrived around 9.15am, not many people. Nice weather, bought cable car ticket to the peak for RMB 50
4. Amazing day, took a lot of photos; it’s always great to bring along a tripod. Walked till the end of safe zone. Richard and I had great morning walk @ Great Wall
5. Around 12.30pm, we retuned back to the entrance. Richard negotiated banana pancake for RMB5 each & coffee for RMB10. Weirdly, we were asked to pay additional RMB10 once the pancake was done; we felt being cheated
6. Bought more souvenir @ Great Wall before leaving MuTianYu
7. Went to 中关村 for lunch before checking out the malls for Lowpro camera bag. After searching 2 malls and almost giving up, we tried the last mall for the last time. We gave up and hunt for a toilet; somehow surprisingly I saw a shop next to the restroom hanging a Lowpro sign at a Nikon outlet. Wow! It’s a great day and got my camera bag for RMB480 (Singapore is selling SGD199). Very happy
8. Then took bus & went to 大宅门
9. …..I think I will stop till here. Too many to tell; but believe me, Beijing is indeed a wonderful place and I don’t mind staying there for a while…3-5 years probably.

24 Hours in Hong Kong

Yahoooooooooooooo.....it's weekend! Hong Kong, here I come. That's the feeling I felt on Sat morning. I have been hearing so many stories about HK's hostel and I managed to book one for my Sat night stay. Here is something new I experienced - my hotel stay in Shenzhen was 180' different with the one in HK. Anyhow, I just need a place to sleep in HK, as long it is clean, safe and comfortable enough.

If you would like to save up some money and having no problem sleeping in a hostel like the one I had, then it is alright. However, please do a careful background search before making a reservation for the room.

It's about 1 hour to midnight now, here I am still blogging and commenting Kelly Teoh's blog about her sien-ness. I have about 5-6 hours to rest as I am going to catch a flight to Shenzhen tomorrow morning.

Nope, it's not another holiday trip, but it is a business trip to Shenzhen to do a support job in Dongguan. It's my 1st time and I am "super" excited about it as I am going there alone. Good thing is I am going to team up with my counterpart to carry out "Operation Rescue & Restore" mission. I have all the necessary tools readied and pretty confident for this mission.

Of course as usual, I will explore and take photos things that interest me. Just stay tune!

...."Daniel, Kambate!!! Hmmm....Don't worry, everything will turn out fine. Just enjoy the whole process and eat some more smelly toufu...and the siumai there...very nice one"...Hahaha...

Hello 28 and going strong

I had a wonderful 28 birthday celebration, which it was being celebrated in a very modest manner.

While I was driving to work on that day (Thursday), I felt a sudden peace in my heart that I do not need to worry about it, which it has been troubling in my mind for the last 5-6 days. At about 9am, I received a call from the bank and it was indeed a great news; it is a super big birthday present from Father. I was overjoyed with the news till I asked the bank officer to reconfirm the news. Hahaha.... :) What a nice way to start the day. Thank you Jesus! And for the rest of the day, I had lunch and dinner makan with my colleagues and my good buddies from EPCC. In short, it was a nice and wonderful day on my b-day.

Moving on, there will be great challenges awaiting for me. For the next 3 months, it is definitely going to be a busy months. There's business trips to go, multiple trainings to give, project to be completed, church video production to run and etc. I pray and hope I am able to manage my time well and give all my best in everything I do. A good friend of mine always says this to encourage me "DANIEL, 加油！！！"

Last Saturday night I attended SNL (Saturday Night Live) and the speaker for that night is Dr. Paul Ang. He shared his testimonies and how God has greatly blessed him so many times. I like the part where we were told to repeat this sentence, "I am deeply loved; I am greatly blessed; I am highly favored". Indeed when I reflect back my life, I can see how God has truly blessed me in so many little things in my life. I just feel the peace and joy in my heart that night and I know my Father in heaven is always there for me and He is going to bless me even more - more than enough till my cup runs overflow. All I need to do is to obey and follow Him. God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good.

Labor for a house? Yes and I am doing my best and walking with faith. And I can't express how much I am deeply in loved by God for His blessing in fulfilling one of my heart's desire.

Chengdu, JiuZaiGou and Huanglong Holiday

I had a great holiday in China and I am very amazed with China's awesome scenery. I plan to go there again in the future with better camera lens and definately will be somewhere around October. The photo above is taken at the sea level above 3500 meters; it is very very cold. I took off my jacket and quickily take a photo shot. In the late evening when we return the same place, it was snowing.

Behind me is the waterfall taken in Huanglong.

This waterfall below is taken at JiuZaiGou. The water is very clean and clear. How I wish I could jump into the water and swim. But it is only a wish I could have in my mind as the penalty to swim in the river is RMB2000 (about Malaysian Ringgit 1000). Few years back before the China government imposed the law, everyone could swim in the river.

Look at this photo below, I really wish I could just roll into the water.

Below 2 photos are taken at the Peacock Lake. Just look at the colorful lake, which it seems like I am in a dreamland. I could see very clearly the bottom of the lake and there's a lot of fish swimming around. Taking photos during autumn is the best as this will make the whole area in red/orange in color. Awesome! This is God's creation.

Is she pretty? She is the local from JiuZaiGou known as the Zhang tribe. By the way, JiuZaiGou is about 3400 meters above sea level. I have forgotten her name, but this year she is 20 years old and she can sing heavenly.

The photo below is taken in LuokDai Oldtown, surprisingly this is a Hakka community area in Sichuan province. I took the opportunity to take a ride as I always wanted to try one. It was a nice experience. The ride cost me RMB10 yuan.

Guess what is this? Guess? Guess? Hahaha...This is the Silk Worm and.......

It is yummy. Yum Yum!!!! It is one of the local delicacies. I also tried the world most smelly taufu. Do I like it? Yes I do and it taste good. Wish I could find such food in Penang. Yum Yum!

A little nice surprise before returning back...

"Hey Daniel, it's a beautiful day today. Want to go out and fly before you go back to Penang?" Scott was asking me about that and without thinking long, I answered with a strong and excited "YES!"

It's a beautiful surprise for me as I thought this time I am going to miss the chance to fly with Scott. We went to Santa Rosa airport and rented a plane. Before we start our flight, Scott did a thorough check by following the procedure for safety purposes. I am amazed by the number of steps he has to go through it. Wihtout delay, he communicated with the control tower and asked for permission to take-off.

We did a couple of stunts in the mid air, such as spinning 360 degree and a free fall drop. WOW! I can't express the feeling here, but it's great. I tried to take some photos of it, but it's just so difficult to take during that moment. After that we headed south to see San Francisco city, flew over the Golden Gate Brigde and along the costal line to see the light house. I took a lot of photos and shared some in this blog.

The landing part was not a nice experience for me. The hot air bubbles caused the landing process very bumpy. I nearly throw out in the plane, but I just hang on and phycho-ing myself that this will be over very soon. I was sweating all the way during the landing time. Just immediately the plane stop, I jump out from it and try to walk around to gain my "stability". Haha...

Overall, this is an Awesome experience. Thanks Scott.

Neophyte Training in Santa Rosa

Neophyte is a program specially designed for my company's field personnels and of coz other customer support team are involved too. We are being trained to learn basic knowledge on Agilent wide products and how to help customers to purchase the right instrument for the needs.

In my group, there are participants from few countries, such as Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, India, Nigeria and Khazastan. It is a wonderful group and I got to the chance to know their working cultures and building up friendship with all of them.

A Visit to Matanzas Creek Winery

John Wan - My counterpart based in Santa Rosa brought me to an awesome and beautiful winery - The Matanzas Creek Winery. It is famous for producing premium class wines in the world. I was given a chance to do wine tasting and from this experience, which enable me to understand better the range of wines available in the market. I had about 5 - 6 different type of wine tasting, each has very different color and flavor. It is difficult to describe the texture of each one too - I guess it takes more practise.

Well, what can I say about this girl. She always carry smiles in her face and always brings a positive mind wherever she goes. And I am sure a lot of her friends (including me) will miss her companion in office or in Penang.

It's just simply a great joy, which I am finding some difficulties to explain right now. I hope I could quickily own a house, so that all my family members can come over and stay with me.

My mum is coming to visit me tomorrow....finally. She has been spending her week with Esther in Singapore. And Esther is so blessed to have mum around, because my mum is the best cook in the world. Thank God Esther did not post up any of those delicious food pictures, else...I will be super duper hungry.

I do not have a propel kitchen at my place and I don't think it's possible to get my mum to do the cooking since she will be here for a few days. I think I should try to get a house as soon as possible, so that my mum can come over whenever she wants. Anyhow, this is her first time in Penang since I started working over here. I plan to bring my mum go around the island, hunting Penang famous hawker food and durian eating (hopefully there are still some), watching movie - Die Hard 4.0, attending my CG and church Sunday service. Basically it's just simple outing with my mum and most important I want her to enjoy and relax while she is here with me.

The Sulfur Butterfly

I got these pictures yesterday morning. As I was about to drive off my car, I saw a bright yellow butterfly landed in the flower. I quickily went back to the house and took my camera out. Somehow I felt that this butterfly is doing some posing for me, which I could take my time to take photos of it.

Here's what my Aunt Doreen told me about this butterfly.

"The butterfly is commonly known as the Sulfur Butterfly, in the family Pieridae.... as it loves to feed at salt or sulfur pools. Used to be very common on the way to Luasong in the old days before logging destroyed a lot of their habitat. The road used to be covered with them feeding on animal droppings or drinking off running pools of fresh mountain flows. Gone are those days!"

I believe most of the Malaysians know this food very well. Here's some photos to share that I took recently.

Parkia speciosa (petai, twisted cluster bean, yongchaak or stink bean), is a plant of the genus Parkia in the family Fabaceae. It bears long, flat edible beans with bright green seeds the size and shape of plump almonds which have a rather peculiar smell.

They are an acquired taste, but are popular in southern

Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia and North-eastern India and are sold in bunches, still in the pod, or the seeds are sold in plastic bags. Depending on the country of origin they may be labelled peteh, petai, yongchaak or sataw (sometimes spelled sator). They are best when combined with other strong flavoured foods such as garlic, chile peppers, and dried shrimp, as in "sambal petai". When young the pods are flat because the seeds have not yet developed, and they hang like a bunch of slightly twisted ribbons, pale green, almost translucent. At this stage they may be eaten raw, fried or pickled.

*Note: The effect of eating Petai will have very strong effect on your urine, where it adds on special aroma to it. Haha...Don't believe? Try and see.

Surrendering the Doubts in Life

So many things that I wish I could do or have it. But I realize that most of the things I desire are beyong my control. I have tried so many times to do every single possible way to achieve my dream(s), even to the extend of being selfless-ness; but that doesn't show any positive result, which sometimes I ended up with more bitterness and regrets!!!

I start my car engine and drive off slowly while at the same time looking upon the windows - hoping something might happen...haha... I guess I really want it to happen faster than I have planned. Hey guys, at least I am putting HOPE.

I often talk to God and share stuffs to Him, I know He is there ready to listen to me. The journey back home changed to be more comforting - from disappointment to gladness and joy in the heart. I told Him that I just want SURRENDER everything, every single things in my life to Him. Tears might try secretly escaping from my eye lids - and I let it flow freely, knowing that I can continue to stand up and face the trials in life. I just need to be still and have faith in God.

Phew!!! What comforting trip back home. Thank You God for giving me the strength to walk thru the daily unexpected challenges. I just want to trust and surrender everything to You.

Title? Is it important?

It's already my 8th month and the application is still pending for approval. I wonder why it take so long to get my application been approved. It's just a simple title but it gives great impact and meaning.

According to www.dictionary.com, Title is defined as "8. anything that provides a ground or basis for a claim." So, is title important to you? Or you would rather make an assumption to claim something/someone belongs to you? Maybe some of us would rather to stay in the unknown state and maybe some of us can't live in such situation. Let me know what do you think and how important is a title for you.

Hey hey.....this is what I have been waiting - Friday. It's been a long week for me after starting my new job. Now I can look forward for weekend and have a good rest. By the way, I plan to get a Canon 30D this coming Aug, that's before my China vacation. As for that, I need to do some saving right now. Phew!!!! Money is being spent like running water from the fire hose - so fast. "Daniel, control Daniel", that's what I have been telling myself not to spend too much money buying unnecessary stuffs since I have spent a lot during my San Francisco trip.
